Immunization Information Systems (IIS) Innovation Project

Want to help your patients, improve care coordination, and meet a Meaningful Use objective?

Join the IIS Innovation Project!

We are seeking Oregon medical practices to join the IIS Innovation Project, part of a national demonstration to increase electronic reporting to state immunization registries and to increase adult immunization rates.

Oregon was one of two states selected by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) for this special project. Best practices and lessons learned in Oregon and Wisconsin will inform future nationwide programs to assist providers with EHR and IIS interoperability. CMS funding permits us to provide assistance to practices at no fee.

Benefits of participation

We can help your practice

  • provide more complete, coordinated patient care
  • identify the data exchange method that makes sense for your practice
  • set up an implementation process to ensure sustainable reporting of data to ALERT IIS
  • use functionality of ALERT IIS and EHR for improving your immunization delivery and preventive care services
  • work to achieve Meaningful Use of your EHR, Stage 1 and beyond, by meeting the “improve population and public health” objective on submitting electronic data to IIS
  • keep your community healthier

Support for other practice improvement initiatives

As use of EHRs becomes the norm for practices and healthcare facilities, the EHR’s ability to exchange data with the IIS will be a critical element of coordinated patient care. This project supports many other efforts, both locally and nationally, with a focus on health information technology, preventive medicine, and coordinated care, such as the CMS EHR Incentive Programs, Oregon’s health information exchange efforts, and the Patient-Centered Primary Care Home Program.
