Patient Safety Alliance
Acumentra Health joined forces with the American College of Surgeons Oregon Chapter, Northwest Physicians Insurance Company, the Society of Hospital Medicine Oregon Chapter, the American College of Physicians Oregon Chapter, and the Oregon Academy of Family Physicians to form the Patient Safety Alliance. The Alliance supports physician-led hospital teams in two high-powered care improvement efforts:
Statewide quality partnership
Oregon hospitals also receive assistance from Acumentra Health as part of a statewide Partnership for Excellence to improve data reporting and surgical care.
Rural and critical access hospital initiatives
Acumentra Health works intensively with Oregon rural and critical access hospitals on multiple safety and care improvement initiatives:
- Rural Hospital Patient Safety
- Technology Applications for Improving Patient Safety
- Critical Access Hospital Core Measures Project
- Rapid Results—Rural Pneumonia project
CAHPS Hospital Survey (HCAHPS)
The Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS) program, which is sponsored by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), has developed the CAHPS Hospital Survey to uniformly measure and publicly report patients’ perspectives of their inpatient care.

Hospital mortality measures
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and its Hospital Quality Alliance (HQA) partners will begin publicly reporting risk-adjusted, 30-day mortality rates on the Hospital Compare website in June 2007. The rationale for reporting mortality measures is to illustrate variation in patient outcomes across the country and to create a visible incentive for hospitals to improve patient short-term survival.
