Oregon hospitals reduce potential payment errors linked with one-day admissions
Results from the One-Day Stay Admission Necessity Project, conducted under Medicare's Hospital Payment Monitoring Program
Acumentra Health recently completed a 13-month project with 13 Oregon hospitals, aimed at reducing unnecessary inpatient admissions and associated billing errors related to one-day inpatient admissions. The project focused on four Diagnosis-Related Groups (DRGs) that are often associated with inappropriate one-day admissions. Prior to the project, Oregon was a high outlier among all states for inpatient claims related to these four DRGs.
Results
Acumentra Health provided interventions to the participating hospitals, including administrative and medical staff education and materials. At remeasurement, the participating hospitals had reduced the aggregate potential payment error rate for cases involving the four DRGs from 52% to 42%.
